Steven Raga, Candidate for the 26th Council District

Seventeen candidates are vying to replace term-limited Jimmy Van Bramer as the representative for the 26th Council District.
In today’s podcast we talk to Steven Raga, who is one of 15 Democrats vying for the seat that covers Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City and a portion of Astoria. The Democratic primary will be held on June 22.
Raga, who was the chief of staff to Assembly Member Brian Barnwell for four years, currently works at the Susan G. Komen Foundation where he oversees healthcare legislation in 11 states.
He has been a member of Community Board 2 since 2016 and sits on the boards of Woodside on the Move, Queens Pride, and the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA). He is also the Founder of Pilipino American Unity for Progress (UniPro).
Raga, who is an active member of the Filipino community and is a resident of Little Manilla in Woodside, said he got into the race prompted by the anti-Asian crime wave.
