Several candidates are running to represent the 22nd Council District—a position that was recently occupied by Costa Constantinides.

In our latest Podcast, we talk to Catherina Gioino who is vying for the seat.

Gioino, a life-long Astoria resident and a freelance reporter, will be competing in the Democratic primary on June 22 to represent the district that covers Astoria as well as sections of East Elmhurst, Woodside and Jackson Heights

We talk to Gioino about her platform, such as how she would advocate for more greenspace, pedestrian plazas and a better bike lane network.

She will be competing in the primary against Leonardo Bullaro, Tiffany Cabán, John Ciafone, Evie Hantzopoulos and Nicholas Velkov.

There are two other candidates running to be represent the district—Edwin DeJesus and Felicia Kalan. They are not running as Democrats and will therefore not be in the primary. They will be participating in the November general election.
