Fifteen candidates are running in Democratic primary for the 26th District Council seat currently held by Jimmy Van Bramer, who is term limited.
In our final podcast we talk to Glennis Gomez, who is one of those candidates vying for the seat that covers Sunnyside, Woodside, Long Island City and a portion of Astoria.
The Queens Post has now interviewed all 15 candidates and the interviews can be found here. Early voting has begun and the primary is being held on Tuesday.
Gomez, whose campaign is heavily focused on affordable housing, is a resident of the Astoria section of the district. She is a former NYCHA tenant who is calling for NYCHA accountability.
She speaks in the podcast about the homeless shelter system, which she was part of for nearly two years. She was the victim of domestic violence and lived in a shelter in East Elmhurst.
Gomez would come to the job with government experience. She worked as a scheduler for current Congressman Adriano Espaillat and served as Chief of Staff for Assemblywoman Gabriela Rosa.
Today, she works at the NYC Department of Education.
