Several candidates are running to represent the 23rd Council District—a position that is currently held by Barry Grodenchik who is not seeking re-election.

In our latest podcast, we talk to Linda Lee who is one of seven Democrats campaigning for the seat.

Lee, who is residents of Oakland Gardens and the daughter of immigrants, is vying for a seat that covers a large section of eastern Queens.

The primary is scheduled to take place on June 22, with early voting beginning Saturday.

We discuss in the podcast her position on the NYPD and why she believes officers require more training; her plans to increase the bike network throughout the district; as well as community boards and how members should be selected.

Lee, who has two young boys, is a member of Community Board 11 and is on the school leadership team at P.S. 203 in Oakland Gardens where her 7-year-old son attends.

She has been the president and CEO Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York (KCS) for about 12 years.

Lee has been endorsed by several elected officials, including Congresswoman Grace Meng, state senators John Liu and Jessica Ramos; assembly members Nily Rozic and Catalina Cruz; as well as council members Danny Dromm and Justin Brannan.

She has the backing of several labor unions, such as the United Federation of Teachers and Hotel Trades Council.

There are six other candidates in the race including Steve Behar, Sanjeev Jindal, Jaslin Kaur, Debra Markell, Koshy O. Thomas and Harpreet S. Toor.

FDNY prevents disaster in East Elmhurst by seizing 68 illegally stored propane tanks

For the second time in four months, FDNY fire inspectors averted a potential catastrophe in East Elmhurst after finding stockpiles of illegally stored propane tanks in the residential neighborhood.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.
