A pop-up COVID-19 vaccination site will open in Corona tomorrow– just days after local leaders called on the city and state to open more sites.

Health providers will administer the vaccine Saturday at Aliento de Vida Church, located at 103-12 Roosevelt Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments will be prioritized for residents of the 11368 ZIP code.

The pop-up site was established about a week after Assembly Members Catalina Cruz, Jessica González-Rojas and Jeffrion Aubry, along with Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, held a news conference demanding the state and city place additional vaccine sites in Corona.

Corona — once dubbed “the epicenter of the epicenter” of the pandemic — has one of the lowest vaccination rates among city neighborhoods.

The neighborhood has had just 6 percent of its adult residents fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as of Friday, according to city data. Boroughwide, that number is 11 percent.

“Now, we can ensure that our neighbors have the opportunity to be vaccinated,” Cruz said. “I am proud to announce that after our advocacy, the NYS Department of Health and SOMOS Health Care/Vaccinations will bring a pop-up vaccination site to Corona.”

Eligible New Yorkers can make an appointment for the pop-up site by calling 1-333-SOMOSNY or visiting somosvaccinations.com.
