A 26-year-old Queens man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a fellow straphanger inside the Grand Central-42nd Street station over the weekend.
Tearance Crumpty, from Flushing, allegedly followed a passenger off a 7 train at around 10 a.m. Saturday and shot the victim in the arm, according to the criminal complaint.
The victim, a 40-year-old man, was listed in stable condition.
The incident was sparked by a dispute when the victim accused Crumpty of following him onto the southbound 4-5-6 platform.
“Stop following me or I will call the police,” the victim said.
The 40-year-old then turned and walked away before he heard a loud bang. The victim told prosecutors he only realized he had been shot after he felt a pain in his left arm.
Crumpty fled the scene on foot in a westbound direction along East 42nd Street, according to police.
The victim, later identified as David Altamirano, was transferred to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said. His friends started a Go Fund Me page on Sunday looking to raise funds to help him cover his medical expenses.
Altamirano, who worked at a pizzeria in the Financial District, suffered multiple fractures to his left arm and has undergone surgical repair, prosecutors said.
Crumpty was arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court Monday on charges of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
His bail was set at $200,000 cash or a $600,000 bond.

Well, think about it, this is deblasio’s NY. So yeah, probably.
Bail is pretty freaking low for charges of attempted murder in the second degree, assault in the first degree and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree. Oh but wait…
Does anyone know if he is back on the streets endangering the people of Queens?
I will bet any amount of money that the gunman Terrence Crumpty was either on parole from prison or gained “compassionate” release from jail due to covid. Too many miscreants now wandering the NYC streets thanks to our feckless elected officials like Jimmy van Job Killer!
