Queens Man Struck Dead While Crossing Long Island Expressway Sunday: NYPD

A 47-year-old pedestrian was struck dead while attempting to cross the Long Island Expressway in Bayside early Sunday morning.

The victim, a Queens man, was trying to cross the highway at around 3 a.m. when he was hit by a sedan traveling eastbound along the expressway near Exit 29, according to police.

When the police arrived, the victim was lying on the roadway unconscious and unresponsive.

The man was transferred to North Shore University Hospital by EMS where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said that the driver of the sedan remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.

The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is still investigating the incident.

The man’s identity has yet to be released, pending family notification.

A Ridgewood mother and daughter were arrested Monday after they ambushed a young Black woman who tried to park her car in a spot in front of their apartment building that they frequently cordon off with garbage cans and traffic cones.

A family friend was standing at the northeast corner of Onderdonk Avenue and Putnam Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. when the 21-year-old Jada McPherson tried to park her car in the spot. The man placed a garbage can in her way. She drove off and circled the block multiple times. She tried to pull into the same spot one more time, but the man tried to stop her again. McPherson got out of her car to confront him, and an argument ensued.
