A busy street in Richmond Hill will be co-named Little Guyana Avenue Saturday in recognition of the contribution to the area by Guyanese-Americans.

The intersection of Lefferts Boulevard and Liberty Avenue will be co-named to celebrate Guyanese-Americans. The event will begin at 10 a.m. at the parking lot of Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home, located at 103-33 Lefferts Blvd.

There will be brief remarks on the history of Little Guyana, plus comments from elected officials, local business owners and the leaders of community organizations. There will also be Guyanese cultural performances.

From there, attendees will walk over to the intersection for the unveiling of the street sign.

The group will then return to the parking lot, where there will be tables set up by community organizations, including the Jahajee Sisters, South Queens Women’s March, United Madrassi Association, Richmond Hill South Ozone Park Lions Club and Caribbean Equality Project.

Adrienne Adams, who represents the district in the city council, calls the street co-naming a “significant milestone” for the Guyanese community.

“I am proud to have worked closely alongside community leaders and organizations to make this long-sought goal a reality,” Adams said.

“This historic event will bring us together to honor the many contributions of the Guyanese community in all of New York City and beyond.”

Among the elected officials expected to be in attendance are Adams, Congressman Gregory Meeks, State Sen. Leroy Comrie, Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards.

Mayor Bill de Blasio is also expected to attend.
