Nov. 6, 2023 By Bill Parry

Police from the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who attempted to rob a woman inside an R train subway station before a good Samaritan intervened on Sunday morning.

Police say the 47-year-old victim was waiting on the southbound platform at the Elmhurst Avenue-Broadway station just after 11 a.m. on Nov. 5 when she was approached by a stranger who shoved her, causing her to fall to the platform. As he was trying to take her purse from her shoulder, the bystander pushed him away from the woman, police said.

The suspect ran from the scene empty handed, according to authorities. The victim was not injured during the incident.

A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to his arrest. Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.

The 110th Precinct has reported 386 robberies so far in 2023, 48 fewer than the 338 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 14.2%, according to the most recent CompStat report.

Fire inspectors from the Special Investigation Unit received a complaint of illegal occupancy at a home just south of LaGuardia Airport at 23-57 89th St. They discovered 68 propane cylinders, which they seized along with five food trucks and a box truck parked on the property last week. The inspectors also found illegal single-room-occupancy in the home’s cellar.
