New 109th Precinct commander addresses robbery and auto theft concerns in Flushing Community

Jan. 16, 2024 By Rachel Butler Approximately 35 Flushing residents attended the NYPD 109th Precinct Community Council meeting at Bowne Street Community Church on Jan. 11 where they were introduced to a new commanding officer who addressed an uptick in robberies and auto thefts. The NYPD has appointed Deputy Inspector Kevin Coleman to take over the precinct who– prior to the move– was the commanding officer of the 104th Precinct that covers the Queens neighborhoods of Ridgewood, Maspeth, Middle Village and Glendale. Dec. 11, 2023 By Rachel Butler The recent hit-and-run death of toddler Quintas Chen in Flushing brought back haunting memories for a Fresh Meadows couple 10 years after the death of their daughter in a similar accident. Amy Tam and Hsi-Pei Liao experienced the death of their 3-year-old child, Allison, on Oct. 6 2013, when she was struck down by an SUV while crossing the street holding her grandmother’s hand.  The incident occurred at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Main Street.
