Annual Jazz Masters concert returning to Flushing Town Hall in December

Nov. 27, 2023 By Rachel Butler Flushing Town Hall will be hosting its 17th annual NEA Jazz Masters concert next month. The venue, which is located on Northern Boulevard in Flushing, has become known as a hub for great jazz music and performances. The Dec. 15 concert will feature renowned trumpet player and Jazz master Jimmy Owens, who will lead a group of six talented musicians. Joining Owens on stage will be Gary Bartz on saxophone, Ron Carter on bass, pianist Joanne Bracken, Louis Hayes on drums and Wycliffe Gordan on trombone.  Ellen Kodadek, the executive and artistic director at Flushing…

Toby Stavisky and Assemblymember Ron Kim joined workers at the Tempco Glass Fabrication facility in Flushing on Nov. 21 to celebrate the company’s 10-year anniversary and the opening of a new glass lamination line. Tempco Glass, located on Maple Avenue in Flushing, specializes in refining glass they receive from their manufacturers to create various forms of glass which are then made available for purchase and can be used for personal or commercial use. Nov. 17, 2023 By Rachel Butler A group of approximately 70 people including residents, labor union workers and New York City Football Club fans attended a Community Board 7 meeting in Whitestone on Nov. 15 to learn about the massive Willets Point Phase 2 proposal that would bring 1,400 residential units, a soccer stadium and a two-star hotel if approved. Nov. 8, 2023 By Rachel Butler Queens Assemblymember Nily Rozic announced that she is allocating $30,000 in funding to build a new STEM lab for students at a Fresh Meadows school. The new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) lab will be built at Schechter Queens, located on 76th Road and Parsons Boulevard in Fresh Meadows, which is a community Jewish day school that teaches students through a dual Judaic and secular curriculum and serves students from pre-K to eighth grade.
