A virtual pop-up market will take place this weekend to promote local restaurants that plan to offer food specials on Valentine’s Day– as well as business owners who will be selling special gift items.
The pop-up, which will take place via Facebook Live, will bring together a number of local restaurant owners and store operators who will discuss their respective businesses and the deals they are putting on for customers.
The event will be presented in English on Feb. 6 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in Spanish on Feb. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.
The Sunnyside Shines Business Improvement District, which is organizing the event, said the initiative will connect residents with local business owners to help them generate revenue.
Valentine’s Day marks the first day of indoor dining since the state shut it down Dec. 13. Many bars and restaurants have lost significant income during the closure.
Jaime-Faye Bean, the executive director of Sunnyside Shines, said the BID is always looking for innovative ways to highlight the creativity of local businesses, entrepreneurs, and artisans while at the same time meeting the needs of shoppers.
“Our online pop-up markets are a fun way for area residents to plan for Valentine’s Day that prioritizes local shopping and dining, from the safety of their home,” Bean said.
Bean said that the market will build on the success of a similar event organized by the group in April – shortly after the pandemic hit.
Bean said that the businesses will outline their offers, showcase their products and provide details on how to make purchases. For example, a worker from Maggie Mae’s bar will show attendees how they make their popular cocktails.
Some of the other participating businesses include restaurants Arriba Arriba, Bliss 46 Bistro, Cardamom Indian Cuisine, I Love Paraguay, and Senso Unico.
Other businesses that will be featured are: Alewife Brewing Company, Blush & Glow Day Spa, Chip NYC, Debra Peredo Astrology, Flowers by Giorgie, Gurrado Woodworks, Ora la Casa de Las Flores, Reverie Wicks Candles and R+D Designs.
Viewers are advised to “like” the Sunnyside Shines Facebook page in advance. Attendees will then receive a notification just before the event kicks off.
The stream will also be saved to the Sunnyside Shines Facebook page. Viewers will be able watch the event at a later date.
