Aug. 7, 2023 By Ethan Marshall

Queens Councilwoman Vickie Paladino was among the local officials to attend the co-naming of 149th Street at 12th Road in Whitestone to Associazione Sacchesi D’America Way on Aug. 2. Paladino sponsored the co-naming to honor the Associazione Sacchesi D’America, an Italian-American civic and cultural group.

“It was a huge honor to facilitate this street co-naming as an Italian-American who was born and raised in Whitestone,” Paladino said. “The association has been a prominent organization within our community for over 100 years and it’s important that we recognize the roots of our
neighborhoods and the people who made us what we are. This was long overdue, but I’m proud to be the one who delivered it for our community. Thank you so much to the association for working with me on this and especially their president, Pasquale Masullo, this would not have been possible without you.”

The Associazione Sacchesi D’America has been a staple of the Whitestone community for a long time. It has been there for more than a century, with many prominent Italian-American residents of Whitestone being a part of it.

“I couldn’t be happier with the street co-naming,” Associazione Sacchesi D’America President Pasquale Masullo said. “I’d like to thank especially Councilwoman Vickie Paladino for securing this co-naming for my association. I mentioned it to her four months ago and her office did not stop until we had scheduled the ceremony and unveiled the new sign. I’d also like to thank Community Board 7 for their hand in this co-naming. Everyone has been so supportive of our organization. I could not be more grateful for this honor.”
