A CBS News reporter was killed after falling from a Revel moped in Greenpoint Saturday.
Nina Kapur, 26, was a passenger on the electric scooter that was traveling northbound on Franklin Street approaching India Street at around, 5:30 p.m., according to police.
The driver, a 26 year-old-man, pulled a hard-brake of the front wheel which flung both riders onto the roadway causing injuries, police said.
EMS transferred both riders to NYC Health + Hospital /Bellevue, where Kapur was pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the moped suffered minor injuries.
The driver believed a car was pulling out of a spot and he swerved the moped to try to avoid it, according to a report by the New York Post.
Both riders were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident, the publication reported.

Kapur, who was originally from Newton in Pennsylvania, joined CBS New York last year after stints at WDVM-TV in Maryland and News12 in Norwalk, Connecticut, the news organization said in a statement Monday.
“We are heartbroken here at CBS2 as a member of our news family has passed away,” the statement read.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Nina’s family. She will be missed.”
Several CBS reporters look to social media to pay their respects to Kapur.
Reporter John Dias tweeted that CBS New York and the world lost “one of the best”
“She was a true angel on earth, and now she is a real one in heaven. Love you, Nina! RIP.”

CBS New York anchor Chris Wragge wrote “our hearts are broken,” and that the team will miss Kapur’s smile, warmth and presence.

Revel is a popular moped sharing service that began operating in the city last year. Riders who have a valid driver’s license can rent the motorbikes by using the company’s app.
However, critics say the electric-powered scooters are dangerous because riders are not required to go through proper training before they rent the bikes.

very sad, however, they do put helmets in the helmet carrier. and if the helmets were missing they should have looked for another scooter or just took a cab. May her memory be a blessing.
