Coldplay, the internationally-acclaimed rock band, is slated to take the stage on the Long Island City waterfront this week.
The band will be performing a private gig at Hunters Point South Park this Thursday, and the event is part of the Macy’s July 4th celebration, a well-placed source told the Queens Post.
The performance Thursday will be recorded by NBC and will air during the network’s July 4th celebrations, starting at 8 p.m.
The band, which has won seven Grammy awards, is expected to arrive at the park during the day with the performance taking place near the Oval at 6:30 p.m.
Coldplay is a British alternative rock band that shot to fame in 2000 with the release of the song Yellow. The band, headed up by singer Chris Martin, is known for its uplifting ballads and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
The performance Thursday is one of several acts that will be screened on July 4 leading up to the fireworks.
The leadup will also feature performances from other artists, including Black Pumas, One Republic and Reba McEntire. It isn’t clear whether they will perform live on July 4—or whether they will be pre-recorded.
Macy’s and NBC were not immediately available for comment.
The fireworks show will take place on the East River, with Macy’s firing off a total of 65,000 shells from five barges in the vicinity of Midtown Manhattan.
The 25-minute extravaganza will begin at roughly 9:45 p.m. and Long Island City residents will get a front-seat view.
