May 23, 2021 By Christian Murray

Three men are dead after the vehicle they were in struck a concrete barrier early Saturday morning before careening into the Newtown Creek, police said.

Police received a 911 call at around 4:45 a.m. that a vehicle was in the water near 29-01 Bordon Ave. in Long Island City.

NYPD divers were called to the scene and needed more than 60 minutes to pull the men out of the water. All three men were pronounced dead.

Authorities, based on a preliminary investigation, say that the driver was traveling at “an apparent high rate of speed” when he lost control of his 2016 Honda Civic, struck a barrier and went into Newtown Creek.

Police have released the names of two of the men killed in the crash: Luis Cuadros, 30, of Elmhurst, and Quameek Mack, 25, of Freeport, Long Island.

The third man has yet to be identified.
