Winning Take 5 lottery ticket worth more than $8,000 sold in Middle Village

A winning lottery ticket for the May 28 Take 5 Midday drawing was sold at a Middle Village deli, The New York Lottery announced on Monday. 

The winning ticket, worth $8,926, was sold at Z Star Deli, located at 66-76 69th St. in Middle Village, according to the New York Lottery. 

Splitting the top prize, worth $17,852 collectively, was another lucky winner, who purchased the other $8,926 prize-winning ticket at Byrne Dairy and Deli #36, at 17 Auert Ave. in Utica. 

TAKE 5 numbers are drawn from a field of one through 39. The drawing is televised twice daily at 2:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A Lottery draw game prize of any amount may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested for slashing a father who tried to defend his son during an after-school brawl near I.S. 192 in St. Albans on Wednesday afternoon.

Police from the 113th Precinct in Jamaica responded to a 911 call of a man slashed at 109-89 204th St. just before 3:40 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they were informed by NYPD School Safety that the 37-year-old man was slashed across the lower back during a dispute between two strangers in the vicinity of 204th Street and Hollis Avenue, police said Friday, stressing that the incident did not occur on school grounds.
